Professor Loey Mak is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. She is a specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology and a clinical researcher focusing on chronic hepatitis B infection.

Professor Mak has published widely in high impact journals and her work has been cited by international clinical guidelines & led to advancement in development of novel drugs in clinical trials. She is currently an associate editor for Clinical Molecular Hepatology, Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, and Gut Sciences (BMJ series). She conducted post-doctoral training (Croucher fellowship) in Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London and Westmead Institute of Medical Research, Sydney (Universitas 21 fellowship) focusing on host-viral interactions in chronic hepatitis B infection.

She has received numerous academic awards, highlights being the Emerging Leader Award by The European Association for Study of Liver in 2023 and The Rising Star Award (runner-up), Global Women in Healthcare Awards by the EMMS International and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2025. She is a Principal Investigator of in the State Key Laboratory of Liver Research in The University of Hong Kong. She is a member of the Clinical Working Group of Steering Committee on Prevention and Control of Viral Hepatitis of Department of Health.
